KENDAL, CUMBRIA - 2010
SRM were employed by the clients to design & project manage the construction of a large accessible extension to their family home. The family approached SRM originally in 2008 to advise on adapting their current family home for their son who was born with Cerebral Palsy. At the time their son around 3yrs old. Over the following year or so SRM worked with the family & looked at several properties & advised on the suitability of each for adaption & future use as an accessible property. A single storey property was finally found which was suitable.
The brief was to design an extension to provide an accessible bedroom, bath/shower room, utility, entrance hall & carers accommodation, with the garden of the property altered to also provide access for their son. SRM worked very closely with the family & OT’s to provide the required facilities within a specified build cost. Within the design, future proofing was incorporated allowing ‘Eye gaze technology’ to be used for operating some doors within the property. The project was part funded by a Disabled Facilities Grant.
