A residential outdoor centre owned & run by Manchester City Council, the main original building being late Victorian – SRM were engaged by Ghyllhead Centre in 2002 to design a new fully accessible, barrier free residential accommodation unit as a substantial extension to an existing 1960’s bungalow. The project incorporates a classroom, games room, bunk/bedrooms, wc/shower rooms, kitchen, lounge & dining room, plus staff bedrooms. SRM worked with the Ghyllhead Centre Staff & Manchester City Council, providing a full Architectural Design service through tender to site supervision & completion of construction for a NOF Grant funded project (project value approx £400,000) in 2003.
In 2005/6 SRM were engaged by Ghyllhead design a new wet entrance hall & large kit store extension to the main building, providing barrier free access to all areas at ground floor level. As part of the project a full internal & external refurbishment, repair, & re-roofing of the whole building was designed, tendered & administered on site by SRM, through to completion of the works in 2007 (project value approx £600,000). The wet entrance & kit store extension was constructed using the Tradis timber frame construction clad in Scottish Larch.
