PLANNING APPLICATION 2016
This contemporary kitchen/dining/living area extension & internal alteration project is currently at the initial design stage. The current kitchen/dining space does not provide the required space for a young family & has very limited space available for utility requirements. The house, at present, only has a single family bathroom. The newly designed space will provide a ground floor shower & wc to supplement the first floor bathroom, additional utility space, an improved kitchen layout which over-looks & maintains a connection with the new family living/dining space which is intended to become the hub of the house.
As well as the brief to create a spacious open, warm & comfortable family space plus a connection with the garden, the requirement to provide a high level of natural light is one of the key elements of this project. This will be achieved by installing a large area of glazing within the zinc roof, as well as large area of high quality glazed doors & full height side screens. Aesthetically we have proposed clean sharp lines, powder coated composite doors & windows, coloured silicone render, etc, to create a contemporary design which contrasts with, but compliments the traditional stone construction of the existing building. We believe that there is significant scope for Architectural Designers & Architects in Kendal, South Lakeland, the Lake District and Cumbria to incorporate contemporary designs with traditional & vernacular buildings to good effect. It is hoped that the local planning authorities at SLDC & the LDNPA will be welcoming of more contemporary architectural in general in the future.
