PLANNING 2017
SRM have worked alongside Longrigg Outdoor Centre since 2002 and recently competed designs for 2 new buildings and various alterations.
Longrigg Outdoor Centre provides outdoor education to young people and adults which an emphasis on children from inner city areas. Fully qualified instructors are able to teach exciting outdoor activities such as climbing and caving all across the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks.
Firstly, a new accommodation building will replace the outdated facilities currently housed within the main building with a careful focus on improving disabled access throughout.
A new kit store/ changing and shower facilities will provide a much needed replacement to the current kit shed. The building will be a functional 2 storey building that will provide facilities to both day visitors and guests of the centre.
A large extension will increase the dining area and create a very usable open area to fit all diners in a single space. The space will also double as a function area and an instructors speaking area prior to outdoor excursions. The overall space will allow buildings to specialise in a specific use as well as vastly improving disabled access throughout the buildings and site area.
All of the new buildings have been designed to achieve a high level of energy performance and resilience to heavy use. Local materials to match the existing buildings will ensure the site sits naturally within the rural surroundings.
